Quand Laurie et son mari, Gordon, un promoteur immobilier, ont déménagé à Atlanta en 1996 avec leurs enfants, Tim et Julia, quelque chose a changé pour le couple, qui avait déjà vécu à Philadelphie, Charlotte, et Tampa. “Nous sommes tombés amoureux de la Géorgie: du paysage, du climat, et des gens,” explique Laurie. “Nous sommes devenus des amis à vie, et on a trouvé une vraie maison.” Pas étonnant, donc, qu’elle et Gordon ne se soient pas trop éloignés dans leur quête d’une escapade rurale. Ils ont trouvé non loin d’Atlanta, un lopin de terre au fond de la Chattahoochee National Forest- , entouré sur trois côtés par le lac Burton et bénéficiant d’une vue imprenable sur le Appalaches.

When Laurie Buchmiller and her husband, Gordon, a property developer, moved to Atlanta in 1996 with their children, Tim and Julia, now in their 20s, something changed for the couple, who had previously lived in Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Tampa. “We fell in love with Georgia: the landscape, the weather, the people,” Laurie explains. “We made lifelong friends, and found a true home.” No wonder, then, that she and Gordon didn’t stray too far in their quest for a getaway. They found not far from Atlanta, a plot of land deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest—enveloped on three sides by Lake Burton and graced with breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains.
