An apartment inspired by philosophy
The Ukrainian architect Sergey Makhno was inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi to stage this apartment in Kiev. The beauty that is promoted here is that of imperfection, irregularity, asymmetry and aging of all things and all life. The textured clay walls, as in the ancient Ukrainian houses, form a protective shell against the harshness of city life perceived through the windows. Photo: Andrey Avdeenko
