This 17m2 design tiny house is net-zero (with plan)
Build Tiny, a well-known builder of mini homes on wheels, built this 17m2 home for its owner in New Zealand, who commissioned the architectural firm First Light Studio to design the plans and fittings. Ohariu, with its elegant black metal facade reminiscent of containers, was born a year after the design. It is net-zero thanks to its solar panels, is towable, and meets the New Zealand Transport Agency's regulations for width, height and weight. Thanks to its large windows, it is very bright, and the light-coloured wood inside reinforces this impression. It cost about $106,000 (€89,000) at the time of construction, including the design by the architects, and its equipment. This may seem high, but a towable tiny house that requires high quality construction is always more expensive per square metre than a conventional building. It is a lifestyle concept and those who want to embrace it are prepared to pay the price for a perfectly finished and comfortably habitable dwelling that can be moved easily from one place to another. It is not for us to make any judgement on the price.
