A barn immersed in nature and a wooden house in the Hudson Valley

In the Hudson Valley, two hours from New York, a region sought after by city dwellers, this old barn immersed in nature was built in the 19th century. It still has the look of a pioneer's house and has been renovated in a traditional way. It is situated on the banks of Stony Creek, surrounded by woodland, and is located in an estate called "The Barn In Tivoli", where there is also a more modern wooden house built in 1972, but whose style is inspired by the barn already on the land.

The owners, a designer/builder and artist, have worked with many local craftsmen to renovate both houses with great care. They are sustainable wherever possible, energy efficient, yet equipped with all modern comforts. Care has been taken to maintain a warm, rustic atmosphere in all the rooms, which look out onto nature through the many windows. On the first floor of the barn, the bedrooms are arranged around a central room, like a loft, and are perfect for entertaining a large family. The idyllic location in the middle of nature and the old-fashioned look of these two houses are sure to appeal to many, even if the traditional interior would probably benefit from being lightened for most of us. This all-wood approach to this barn immersed in nature may seem a little invasive, but it corresponds in every way to the owners' desire to preserve the authenticity of the place.
