Et si toutes les terres heureusement ne seront pas submergées, surtout si nous arrivons à maîtriser un peu l’augmentation des températures, la maison flottante risque d’être l’habitat idéal du futur. Certains ont déjà choisi d’y habiter dans des communautés sur l’eau, aux Pays-Bas par exemple, ou encore aux USA, où ce type de construction atypique n’est pas anecdotique.

Ce sont les architectes réputés du studio Olson Kundig qui ont conçu cette maison flottante, une houseboat dessinée par Jim Olson, le directeur du design de l’entreprise, dans le sud de Washington, sur la baie de Portage en 2020. La maison comporte deux étages et offre une vue à 180 degrés sur la zone verte et aquatique. Il s’agit là d’une maison au look contemporain, conçue comme une grande cabane moderne faite de bois et de verre. Les pièces de réception et le bureau sont situées au premier niveau, les espaces intimes comme les chambres à l’étage. Chaque centimètre carré a été exploité, et si choisir la chaleur du bois pour habiller les sols et les murs pouvait sembler étouffant à certains, les grandes fenêtres, la présence de l’eau donnent une atmosphère légère et subtile. Architect-designed floating house on two floors

The world is predicted to rise due to global warming (welcome to the 21st century!). And while fortunately not all land will be submerged, especially if we manage to keep the rise in temperature under control, the floating house may well be the ideal habitat of the future. Some people have already chosen to live in communities on the water, in the Netherlands for example, or in the USA, where this type of atypical construction is not anecdotal.

The renowned architects of the Olson Kundig studio designed this floating house, a houseboat designed by Jim Olson, the company’s design director, in southern Washington on Portage Bay in 2020. The house is two stories high and has a 180-degree view of the green and watery area. It is a contemporary looking house, designed as a large modern cabin made of wood and glass. The reception rooms and office are located on the first level, with intimate spaces such as the bedrooms on the second. Every inch of the house has been exploited, and while choosing the warmth of wood for the floors and walls may seem stifling to some, the large windows and the presence of water create a light and subtle atmosphere.
