This original, designer home is by architect Sharon Davis, who built it on the foundations of an abandoned house and next to a traditional redwood barn in the Hudson Valley. With a floor area of approximately 84m2 (which can be considered modest in the USA), this house gives no hint of its originality when one discovers its façade clad in reclaimed wood, which blends in perfectly with its rural surroundings. Then the surprise is complete. Behind the classic facade, you will find an original and design house, widely open to the outside thanks to its large bay windows.
It offers a breathtaking view of the mountains, and is decorated in a minimalist way, nothing to do with a traditional country house! Wood and concrete are combined in this interior furnished with vintage pieces. This house was designed with sustainability in mind, and is built with recycled, reclaimed and local materials. Its high-tech geothermal heating and cooling and soy foam insulation further reduce its ecological impact. Architect Sharon Davis was keen to respect the history of the place and its environment by building this house for herself, and to top it all off, it can be rented through Airbnb (click on this link to find out more).
