Cette maison légendaire, la Pyramid House est construite près des dunes de Fire Island. Elle a été conçue par l'architecte argentin Julio Kaufman, qui l'a positionnée de façon à profiter des vues sur le National Seashore et l'océan Atlantique. Construite dans les années 1960, elle ne possédait pas ce toit vitré à l'origine. C'est en 2006 que l'architecte Hal Hayes a remplacé la totalité de la façade par un mur de verre et a reconfiguré l'intérieur, en s'inspirant de la célèbre pyramide du Louvre conçue par Ieoh Ming Pei, ce qui lui a donné son nom de Pyramid House .
Elle est décorée dans un style vintage mid-century, mais c'est sa vue stupéfiante et son architecture qui retiennent l'attention. Proche des plages, elle dispose tout de même d'une piscine salée et chauffée car l'océan peut se révéler froid et sauvage. Les brises maritimes la rafraichissent de jour comme de nuit, et comme l'île n'est accessible que par bateau, la tranquillité des habitants est préservée.
This legendary house, the Pyramid House, is built near the dunes of Fire Island. It was designed by Argentine architect Julio Kaufman, who positioned it to take advantage of the views of the National Seashore and the Atlantic Ocean. Built in the 1960s, it did not originally have a glass roof. In 2006, architect Hal Hayes replaced the entire facade with a glass wall and reconfigured the interior, inspired by the famous Louvre pyramid designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, giving it its name Pyramid House.
It is decorated in a vintage mid-century style, but it is the stunning views and architecture that catch the eye. It is close to the beach, but has a heated saltwater pool as the ocean can be cold and wild. Sea breezes cool it day and night, and as the island is only accessible by boat, the peace and quiet of the inhabitants is preserved.
