C’est en 1939 que Val d’Isère a débuté la construction de son 1er téléphérique pour accéder au massif ensoleillé de Solaise. La gare supérieure du Téléphérique qui a cessée de fonctionner en 2016 a donné naissance au Refuge de Solaise, perché à 2 551 mètres d’altitude, qui est désormais l’hôtel le plus haut de France. Il surplombe la vallée et le village de Val d’Isère tout en offrant une vue imprenable sur les massifs de Haute Tarentaise.
